Kay’s Baby Gear Recommendations
Creating a Registry
As a self-proclaimed minimalist, long time New Yorker, and decade-long full spectrum doula: these are the things I would willingly give space to in my apartment. As the saying goes, babies truly do not need much!
Now, the items below are mainly chosen with a specific parent in mind. This is a parent who lives in a pedestrian friendly city, experiences four seasons a year in their city, travels often and does not own a car. My recommendations would change dramatically if there were a car involved or if a singular season dominated the year. If that applies to you, then I would suggest viewing the items below very carefully to see if it makes sense for you. For example, if I had a car, I would only have one stroller in my life. Or if I lived in Miami Beach, I probably would never use any of the swaddles below and stick to muslin or gauze fabric swaddles.
When it comes to building your registry, try to frame purchases through a personalized lens always. This minimizes the impulse purchases that may never be used because it doesn’t align with your lifestyle or the practicalities of tending to babies (look at you Charlie Crane baby rocker). The second is always seeking second hand items when able and appropriate such clothing, baby carriers, etc. This not only budget friendly, but it’s also environmentally protective especially knowing that each of these babies will inhabit this earth long after we gone. In the age of Facebook many parent classifieds exist for neighborhood specific child-related BST swaps, or infamous Buy Nothing Groups. I highly encourage plugging into your local group and you will be stunned by what lovely pieces are seeking new homes.
Alright, the list!
